ADJOA J. BURROWES was born in Chicago, Illinois, and received her Fine Arts degree from Howard University. She has illustrated many children’s books, including LEE & LOW’s MY STEPS and GRANDMA’S PURPLE FLOWERS, which she also wrote. Adjoa’s idea for this book came from her childhood memories of having her own hair braided as well as her recent memories of afternoons spent braiding her daughter’s hair. Adjoa and her three children live near Washington, DC.
