KAREN HJEMBOE, also the author of MY FAMILY, was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She has written many stories for children’s magazines, and has taught first grade for six years on the Santo Domingo Pueblo Indian reservation in New Mexico. Karen loves animals. She has seven cats, a dog, and a horse named Tally Man. Karen and her husband live in Corrales, New Mexico.



ANTHONY CHEE EMERSON is a Navajo artist who was born in California, where he lived until he was ten years old. His paintings have won awards in Indian art shows and art markets, and he has illustrated several books for children. Anthony lives in Kirtland, New Mexico, with his wife and their two children.
