DINAH JOHNSON was born in Charleston, South Carolina. She is the author of several books for children and is a contributor to the award-winning book IN DADDY’S ARMS I AM TALL: AFRICAN AMERICANS CELEBRATING FATHERS, published by LEE & LOW BOOKS. In addition, Dinah is an associate professor of English at the University of South Carolina. She lives in Columbia, South Carolina, with her daughter and their dog, Buttercup.

MARIA VICTORIA "VICKY" TORRE, of Puerto Rican descent, was born in New York City. She has a master’s degree and is working toward her doctorate, both in bilingual education. Vicky is also a Reading Recovery® teacher. She loves to photograph people, especially children, and she has written and photographed several beginning reader stories. Vicky lives in Florida with her husband and their three daughters.
